Lazy Saturdays at Burp Pasta!

Personal Joke Most Interesting Man Meme In this case, it’s Burp. (And no, I don’t have to say excuse me.)

After finding myself a little famished for food one Saturday, a friend and I looked for the nearest restaurant we can find. Fortunately it was a place my friend found familiar. She’s been here a few times, she said. And then she warned me that only some of the food are good.

Slogan reads, “Good. Fast. Italian.” Promo on door goes something like, “Enjoy 20% discount from 3 PM to 5 PM.”

Burp-Pasta-Penne-Pasta-Bake

Penne Pasta Bake, Php165.

Served steaming hot in a ceramic baking dish, Burp’s Penne Pasta Bake looks tasty topped with melted cheese and diced parsley. In the end, it’s all about the taste, though. While the penne pasta is al dente, the sauce leaves a lot to be desired. Granted, the sauce reminds me of my own cooking, and how my brothers hate the somewhat bland tomato-based pasta dishes I used to make. Some emphasis on the “used to” right there. To be fair, the pasta sauce is made of real tomato chunks and delicious bits of fresh beef. The dish just lacks some oomph, like a pinch of McCormick’s Italian Seasoning, some julienned sweet basil, or a dash of salt and pepper. Anything! And the bread stick is somewhat dry.

Burp-Pasta-Iced-Tea-Carafe

Iced tea carafe, Php135.

The lemon iced tea is good. Too much ice, I feel, but the drink has a unique taste. An iced tea carafe that costs Php135 may sound too much for some, especially since it’s just basically around 250 ml of tea and a pound of ice cubes. And it’s no Starbucks zen tea or CBTL Southern Blend either. But Burp’s can still hit the spot somewhat. And if you like spending lazy weekends with a friend, you can just go order a carafe or two, and have a smoke outside.

Verdict

I haven’t tried a fraction of Burp’s menu yet, so I’m not sure if I should do this. But if I really had to, it would be:

Price: Php250 – Php350 per person
Food: 3 out of 5 stars
Value: 3 out of 5 stars

Paula insists that the food items are either a hit or miss, so…
